One of the many great things about being a Chi Vet is the opportunity to play in team matches against other clubs, both home and away, and at no cost for the round. These matches run throughout the summer season and are organised by our Interclub secretary, Peter Hamnett. Click the calendar link to see all of this summer's matches.
These matches are all Four-Ball Better Ball (4BBB) matchplay format, where two-person teams play their own balls, and the team's score on each hole is the lowest nett score of the two partners. Some are mixed matches (boys and girls). You don't have to be a lower handicap player - everyone is welcome. The only requirement is that you also play in some of our Wednesday competition to be eligible for selection.
A few of the matches are played for a trophy or shield, and these tend to be very competitive: the Haygarth Shield (Hill Barn), the JR Jug (Goodwood), and the Gerald May Memorial Trophy (Selsey). In addition, there are matches against the Ladies section (the Hunston Salver) and the Mens section (Rife Cup).
To register your interest in playing in particular matches, simple book in to the match in HowDidiDo as you would for any other Vets competition. The matches are generally available for booking from early March, until about 10 days before the date of the match. Team selection is coordinated by Peter and possibly a chosen captain-of-the-day.
Peter also runs a "Points Scored" competition in which you can earn points in each match you play, leading to prizes for our best-performing players at the end of the season. For more details, see the description in the folder below.
