Matchplay knockout competitions are organised in both the summer and winter seasons, with both singles and pairs competitions, and for both the Vets (on the Cathedral course) and the Tower Vets (on the Tower course). All matches are played from the yellow tees. The Vets Singles and Pairs events may be organised in divisions.
The summer Vets singles also have a Plate competition, where all divisional losers from both the preliminary and first rounds are included.
This very much depends on the personal preference of whoever is organising the competitions. Sign-up will normally be either using HowDidIDo or on a piece of paper on the locker room wall. Both methods will define a closing date for entry.
Once the draw has been published, players are responsible for arranging their matches. Each player or pair should offer three dates over a reasonable period before the closing date for that round. If the players cannot agree on an acceptable date, then the competition organiser will be the final arbiter and will either grant a walkover or declare a toss of a coin to determine the result. The decision of the competition organiser is final.
The player with the lowest Playing Handicap gives the full shot differences to the other player(s).
In singles matchplay, the Playing Handicap is 100% of the Course Handicap.
In pairs matchplay, the Playing Handicap is 90% of the Course Handicap.
For these internal matchplay competitions, the rounded Course Handicap shown on the Slope Tables will be used.
If a match is all square after 18 holes, additional holes shall be played on a "sudden death" basis.
Ongoing results for each phase of the knockout will be make available either on HowDidiDo, or on a piece of paper on the locker room wall, and possibly also on this web site and Facebook, depending on the personal preference of whoever is organising the competitions.
